The quality of your pool water is essential to ensure a safe and enjoyable swimming experience. Two of the key parameters to monitor are chlorine and pH. Incorrect chlorine and pH levels can lead to problems such as cloudy water, skin and eye irritation, and algae growth.

1. Test the pool water:
Before starting any treatment, it is important to test the chlorine and pH levels in your pool using a water analysis kit. This will give you a clear indication of the current situation, and you can adjust your treatments accordingly.

2. Rebalancing the pH :

  • pH too high: If the pH is above the recommended range, you will need to add a pH reducer (usually hydrochloric acid) to lower the level. Follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully and add the acid in small amounts to avoid excessive pH reduction.

  • pH too low: If the pH is below the recommended range, you will need to add a pH builder (such as baking soda) to raise the level. Again, follow the manufacturer's instructions and add the product gradually until the desired pH is reached.

3. Correcting the chlorine level :

  • Chlorine level too low: If the chlorine level is below the recommended range, you will need to add a chlorine-based disinfectant such as liquid chlorine, chlorine tablets or chlorine powder. Follow the instructions on your package to determine the exact amount to add according to the volume of your pool.
  • Chlorine level too high: If the chlorine level is too high, you can reduce its concentration by leaving the pool in filtration mode for an extended period. You can also add a chlorine reducer product specially designed to reduce the chlorine level quickly.

4. Maintain a constant balance:
Once you have adjusted the chlorine and pH levels to their appropriate values, it is essential to keep them within these ranges by testing the pool water regularly. You should test your water at least once a week and adjust the levels if necessary.

The correct treatment of the chlorine and pH levels in your pool is crucial to ensure clean and healthy water. By following the advice in this article and testing regularly, you can maintain a constant balance and enjoy your pool to the full.
